In a blooming gesture of environmental upliftment, the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment (DFFE) has gifted Nama Khoi Municipality with 147 trees—105 indigenous beauties and 42 fruit-bearing gems (think juicy lemons and sweet peaches). It’s not just a donation; it’s a declaration of growth, resilience, and community pride.
On 28 October, following a spirited Council Meeting, councillors were each entrusted with 15 trees to plant in their respective wards. It was more than a handover—it was a call to action, a leafy baton passed from policy to pavement. These trees will soon take root in neighbourhoods across Nama Khoi, bringing shade, fruit, and a sense of shared stewardship.
But the green magic didn’t stop there. Twelve trees have been earmarked for the Municipality’s business hub as part of the town rejuvenation plan—an initiative that’s turning concrete corners into vibrant, welcoming spaces. And in a moment of symbolic planting, several trees were ceremoniously rooted at the Municipal Headquarters in Springbok, marking the start of a new season of growth.
“This is about more than trees. It’s about legacy, liveability, and love for our land.”
So whether it’s a lemon tree brightening or a peach tree anchoring through the region, this initiative is sowing seeds of hope across Nama Khoi. And with councillors leading the charge, the future is looking leafy and lekker.
